Personalize your wedding vows (your videographer will love you)
What holds us back from writing our own vows? Is it the fear that we won’t be able to elequently capture our feelings in the form of words? I would argue that the simple, traditional vows certainly don’t achieve that. I get why some people might prefer them, but they definitely don’t capture your individuality or speak to your heart personally.
Is it the general fear of speaking in public? If you’re worried about that, I’ve got great news for you: it’s pretty easy to forget about the rest of the world when your significant other is standing right in front of you.
But most importantly, the rewards just far outweigh any risks. Sit down. Speak from your heart. You don't have to be funny, clever, incredibly insightful, or poetic. But you do have to be honest... to yourself and to you your significant other. Tell them the impact that they've had on your life. Tell them what you admire about them. Don't be shy. This is the time to lay it out there.
Then come the vows. I usually hear some great personal ones ("I promise to always scratch your back") that's a great one! Keep it about you two. And try not to go into song lyrics unless it's short and incredibly personal and important that you do. You'll know when that's the case. Otherwise... no.
Now here's why this is on a wedding videographer's blog. Besides the fact that you should definitely have a wedding videographer (I'll commit a whole post to that later... maybe several), you should definitely have your own personal vows because they REALLY enhance your wedding video. We take you out to beautiful locations during the best light, we pose you in the these intimate, romantic shots, and what could make these things better than your own words to each other sincerely conveying your love and commitment to each other.
You should definitely have a wedding videographer, and you should abso-friggin-lutely have your own vows. Check out Jack and Lisa's vows in their highlight reel at the top of the page!
